Show Me The Meaning explores IKEA as a site of escapism from loneliness by reconstructing familiar patterns of living in the fabricated, to build connections through the act of seeing.
A space that I frequented as a child.
Filled with dreams that one could never have – of a perfect room, of the perfect lifestyle.
Now alone in a new part of the world, it is a space that looks uncanny to where I once was.
Living in ‘the dream’ that feels barely like it and has yet to come true,
The closest I can get, living in the show room.
As I put myself on display,
To steal your every thought and gaze,
You begin to show me the meaning of escape.
